How Clean Windows Can Improve Your Mental Health

Have you opened your curtains lately to let in some natural light, only to find that your windows look dingy or spotty? Clean windows around your home can help lift your mood and enhance your curb appeal. Our windows do a lot more than we give them credit for, including helping our mental state.

Vue Window Cleaning knows that cleaning windows on the interior and exterior of your home can be overwhelming. Hiring our team will give you peace of mind and have you enjoying natural sunlight in no time. Avoid mental overwhelm and schedule a professional cleaning today.

1- Exposure To Natural Light

Getting enough Vitamin D is essential for our physical and mental health. Sunlight can help improve your mood but sitting out in the sun can be dangerous too. Clean windows will help let natural light into your home and give you the opportunity to get some Vitamin D without risking too much UV light exposure.

Natural light also helps your home to look bigger and feel more open. This can help improve your mental clarity and focus. When homes are cluttered, it can be hard to feel motivated, so increasing natural light can keep your home from feeling confining.

2- Improve Mental Clarity

A clean home helps us to focus and enjoy the space more. Not only will clean windows help let in natural light, but they are also lovely to look at when dirt and grime are removed. Taking the time to clean your windows will give you a healthier home and give your mind something to focus on.

3- Managing Anxiety With Routine Cleaning

Those with mental illnesses like anxiety often find peace while cleaning or tidying their house. Take a few minutes to clean your windows and check one item off your mental to-do list.

Scheduling a time and day to clean your windows every month or every few months can also bring peace of mind. Bugs, dust, and excess window cleaner can build up on your window tracks and sills and smudges can make the interior and exterior glass look old. Setting a reminder to clean can make it less overwhelming and make your home feel less overwhelming as well.

4- Feel Renewed In Your Home

Dust and bacteria can lead to physical and mental symptoms of fatigue and sickness. Clean windows, floors, and walls in your home will help you relax and feel renewed in your home. Dark spots from mold or dust will have you seeing your home in an unflattering light. The benefits of clean windows are twofold; enhance your home interior and your curb appeal.

5- Increase Gratitude For Your Surroundings

Not only do clean windows let in natural light, but they also let you see the world outside your home. Being able to see out your windows will give you a beautiful view of your backyard, your friends, and other surrounding scenery. Taking in the beauty around you will help increase feelings of happiness and gratitude about your home and where you live. Windows are a great way to notice more about your surroundings that you may have never noticed before, especially as the weather starts to warm up.

During especially hard mental health days, looking at the positives and reflecting on what you have can boost your spirits and give you some extra motivation.

How To Keep Your Window Screens In Good Condition For Longer

Dirty window screens impact your indoor air quality, your energy costs, and the curb appeal of your home. They cause your windows to get dirtier and become more prone to damage and pest invasions.  As such, it’s important to do what you can to keep them in good condition as long as possible.

In our previous blog, 4 Signs You Need To Repair Or Replace Your Window Screens, we discussed common causes of window screen damage and signs that you need to replace your window screens. Head on over there if you would like to learn more about that, then come back here for effective steps to take to keep your screens in good shape for longer.

Don’t Neglect Your Window Screens

Most homeowners only notice their window screens when they get damaged or when they clean their windows. Window screens are seldom cleaned and maintained as they should be. As such, they can become brittle and need more frequent replacement. Neglected screens can fall apart when removed.

This can greatly shorten the lifespan of your screens, causing you to spend more money replacing them than you would have to otherwise. Window screens last 10-15 years, on average. This is when they remain dry, mostly in the shade, and cleaned on occasion. You can add 5-10 years to your screens’ lifespan with regular cleaning and maintenance.

Different Screens Have Different Needs

It’s not just whether or not you clean and maintain your window screens that impact their lifespan. In order to keep your window screen in good condition for as long as possible, you’ll need to take their different needs into account.

Some of the factors that affect your screens’ lifespans include:

  • Quality
  • Mesh type
  • Frame type
  • Usage, such as being moved/handled
  • Water exposure, as from sprinklers, rain, and the like
  • Environment, such as sun exposure, ocean proximity, climate, and the like
  • Whether or not you have children
  • Whether or not you have pets

The higher quality the materials, the longer your screens are likely to last. If you have furry pets or young children, it’s likely that your screens won’t last as long, due to increased exposure to dirt and factors like pets and children leaning against them, throwing things at them, and the like.

Clean Regularly

It’s easy for dust and grime to build up on your screens, especially if they are on the exterior of your home. You can carefully remove the screens, rinse them off, wash them, then allow them to dry completely before you put them back in place. You can do this whenever you notice buildup. You may want to clean your window screens more frequently during allergy season.

How Often Do You Need To Clean Your Window Screens?

This depends on the factors mentioned above. Generally speaking, you want to give them a really good, deep clean once or twice a year. However, you may need to clean them more frequently, such as 1-3 times a month.

Your window cleaning professionals here at VUE Window Cleaning are happy to provide you with personalized advice for how often you should clean your screens to keep them in good condition.

Should You Remove Your Screens In The Winter?

Screens are excellent for allowing you to enjoy fresh air during the warmer months, without needing to worry about pests or dirt coming through open windows. However, come winter, you’re likely leaving your windows closed to preserve heat.

You may decide to remove your window screens in the winter to protect them from winter weather damage. In the spring, you can ensure your window screens get a nice, deep clean before putting them back in the frames.

You will need to check your local ordinances before doing this, as some county and municipal housing codes mandate that windows that can be opened have screens in place.

Repair As Needed

Just because your window screens are no longer in perfect condition doesn’t mean it’s time to replace them. Many damages can be repaired, so you can get more use out of your window screens by restoring them to good condition. Ensuring that you have repairs taken care of in a timely manner prevents the damage from worsening and causing you to need premature window screen replacement.

The History Of Pressure Washing

The History Of Pressure Washing

Renting or buying pressure washers for your home or business is almost as easy nowadays as buying other household items. Pressure washers can be used by homeowners or professional cleaning companies to help remove debris and build-up from a residence. Pressure washing as a profession and the machines themselves have evolved over time. In this blog, we will look at a short history of pressure washing and how it has changed to what it is today.

Vue Window Cleaning offers power washing for homes and businesses to help improve your property. We help remove grime, dirt, mold, and mildew to help give your home new life. Pressure washing and soft washing are both services that our business offers. Read below for more on the history of pressure washing.

The Industrial Age

The challenges and problems of the industrial age brought out many creative inventions and solutions. It also gave rise to more pollution in the air, which lead to the new problem of cleaning burnt material, oil residue, and other build-up needing to be cleaned.

Scrubbing all day long was not going to be a long-term solution, so during that time, Frank W. Ofeldt II used his engineering brain to solve the grease mess in his home. Ofeldt made moonshine in his garage and the stills made a greasy mess. He redesigned one of the stills to boil plain water and use the steam created to clean it. Using the steam at high pressure through a narrow tube worked to remove the grease. This was the beginning of the modern history of pressure washing.

While the ideas were good, they would obviously need some polishing before they could be used by multiple people. The Homestead Valve Company invested in this invention and helped to develop the hot pressure washer or steam washer. The public then received what is known as the Hypressure Jenny.

Steam Jennies

These powerful little machines became popular at a rapid speed because they worked for manufacturing plants, carwashes, mechanics, and chemical plants. The pump technology had limits that needed to be adjusted to help the pressure. But what really kept the Steam Jennies from becoming a household tool was their price. As they continued to evolve, pressure washers would start to become more accessible to homeowners and include them in the development process.

The Steam Washer

The next inventor involved in the history of pressure washing was Alfred Karcher of Germany. His company, Karcher company had invented caterpillar tubes and hot air blowers. He took it upon himself to reinvent the steam washer and came up with the first “true” pressure washer in 1950.

In 1984, the company had a good grasp on the industry and created the first portable pressure washer, the HD 555 which weighed only 33 lbs. It reached households only after Alfred’s death in 1958. While he never got to see success firsthand, his legacy lives on and benefits homes to this day.

The History Of Pressure Washing

Changes To The Pump

Some of the major changes that needed to take place before we got to the pressure washers we have today was the pump. The pump helped to move the steam or water through the hose or narrow tube in order to come out at high pressure.

The first pump was the piston pump which started in the car wash. It helped to change the water from hot to cold and switch between clean water and water with detergents. The first generation of pressure washer pumps were electric-powered piston types. Their problem was that they needed major maintenance and low rpm which limited the pressure capacity.

The next pump used in the history of pressure washing was the ceramic plunger pump with a crankcase. This has been credited with making pressure washing what it is today because it required less maintenance and increase performance goals. Rather than a belt, the pump could not be coupled to electric or gas motors. This increases the rpm to between 1100 to 1800 which increased the spray pressure.

The cat pump with ceramic plungers was introduced in the U.S. and helped bring more pressure washing machines to the market in the USA. The higher pressure was key to making useful tools and moving into expanding markets. Cat pumps, general pumps, and Hypro were all the biggest suppliers to the OEM markets in the pressure washing industry.

Benefits Of Home Pressure Washing

As the history of pressure washing evolved and changed, homes can now see numerous benefits because of inventions and changes in pump type. It can help improve the health of your home, limit deterioration, and more. Here are some other benefits of pressure washing.

  • Saves you time and energy
  • Primes surfaces for renovation
